This commissioned design served as a grounding visual element for a traveling one-act performance of Ariadne Blyade's short play "The Other Room." Interested in themes of the misunderstood mind and how to seek connection despite inexplicable emotional turrbulance, this design references the scientific topics of conversation as well as the overwhelming thinking patterns of someone with great intelligence.

Inspired by imagery of brain scans and medical equipment, this textile and accompanying projection design utilizes a combination of analog and digitial processes to achieve its effect as an adaptable scenic piece:

The hanging textile is constructed from voile and a variety of hand-sewing techniques to add depth to this otherwise thin fabric. The voile fabric allows for rear projection, which supported its function as a structure actors would be moving in front of.

The projection itself is an experiment with generative art-making processes. The general visual landscape was modeled after Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It was then coded to respond to sound inputs that analyzed varience in the tempo and volume of speech on stage. The movement reflects the intensity (or lack there of) during the performance in order to not distract the performance, but rather add to its themes.
