i didn’t taste a bite of one of the most important meals of my life, however, my memory was nourished by this unique connection to my great grandfather - a man that i never had the pleasure of meeting but swear i feel his presence every time i step foot into the kitchen. as the white house head chef for four presdients, he prepared 50 state dinners with no professional training. he managed to muster up elegant dinners for various heads of state. i hear that he loved people and hosting them, so it broke my heart to think that he cooked these meals but didn’t get to enjoy the company they fostered, so i hosted him. with a tablecloth archiving those 50 dinners and a menu full of stories i heard about him, we finally met and it was delicious.
